Our department prepares students for exciting careers and graduate school through high quality instruction in small classes and close collaboration between faculty members and students on projects. Our goal is to provide students with a strong foundation in the fields of computer science and cybersecurity, one that also promotes critical thinking and lifetime learning.
Our department offers a Bachelor of Science in computer science, which is ABET accredited, and has launched a new Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity and digital forensics in fall 2024, to meet a high regional demand. We are excited that enrollment in the new major continues to surge. Our department also offers minors in computer science, computer engineering, and cybersecurity & digital forensics. In addition, we also offer a Master of Science in computer science.
As of fall 2024, our department had 361 declared computer-science majors, 117 majors in cybersecurity & digital forensics, and 29 MS students in computer science. Of all these students, about 46% are students of color, 19% of whom identify as Black, 11% as Hispanic, and 10% as two or more races; 48% of our majors are first-generation college students; 10% are openly LGBTQIA+; and 4% are Veterans.
The department is housed in the Dana Mohler-Faria Science and Mathematics Center, where faculty and staff work with students in electronics, robotics, and computer labs, with a new cyber range established to extend student learning. Bridgewater State University has hosted programming competitions and is starting to serve as a regional center for cybersecurity in Massachusetts. Successful candidates will work with colleagues to support the needs of all students in our inclusive community.
