About the role
As a Cloud Services App Support Engineer II, you will take ownership of deploying, operating, and optimizing Microsoft Azure environments that power critical business applications. Your work spans provisioning AKS clusters, implementing Infrastructure as Code through Terraform and Azure DevOps, and automating operational workflows with scripting. You will safeguard reliability and security by applying SRE principles, enforcing compliance baselines, and managing identity, networking, and observability across the cloud estate. This position reports directly to the Circle Lead for Cloud Operations and plays a pivotal role in ensuring our platforms remain resilient, secure, and cost-efficient.
About the team
Our team delivers global IT operations for enterprise SaaS platforms, managing day-to-day activities in public cloud environments. We provision new environments, provide production support, and ensure operational excellence for a diverse portfolio of applications. Collaboration is central to our approach. We work closely with internal teams and external clients to deliver responsive, high-quality support. Team activities span design review, infrastructure and application provisioning, and continuous monitoring to maintain robust, secure, and scalable services.
Your responsibilities include:
- Provision and manage AKS clusters.
- Use Azure DevOps and Terraform to implement pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Automate operational tasks using IaC, configuration management, and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
- Configure and support networking and edge controls (Azure Firewall, NSGs, Application Gateway/WAF, etc.).
- Work with identity platforms including Microsoft Entra ID and Okta for authentication and access management.
- Configure and maintain observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights; manage alerts, runbooks, and dashboards.
- Apply security baselines and Defender for Cloud recommendations. Manage vulnerabilities, keys/certificates, patching, and change processes.
- Operate and support databases and storage services, including performance, backup/restore, and access control.
- Support reliability through on-call participation, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
- Apply SRE principles by defining and monitoring SLIs/SLOs and driving reliability improvements based on incident and operational data.
- Optimize cloud costs through rightsizing, autoscaling, reservations, and tag-based cost allocation.
- Collaborate closely with application, security, and networking teams to design solutions that are secure, reliable, and supportable.
- Review the solutions and test new infrastructure releases.
About you
You are a cloud technologist with hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure and a passion for operational rigor. You thrive in environments where automation, security, and scalability intersect. Your toolkit includes AKS, Helm, Terraform, and Azure DevOps, complemented by strong scripting skills and a solid grasp of networking and identity platforms. You bring a problem-solving mindset to incident response and reliability engineering, and you understand how to translate business needs into secure, supportable technical solutions. You should bring the following skills and experiences:
- Bachelor's degree level or equivalent in computer science or related field.
- 4-7 years of total experience with at least 3+ years hands‑on in Microsoft Azure production environment.
- Strong experience with AKS and Helm.
- Solid Azure DevOps experience (YAML pipelines, repos, boards) and Git fundamentals.
- Practical knowledge of networking and firewalls in Azure (VNets, peering, NSGs, Azure Firewall, App Gateway/WAF, etc).
- Security hardening and workload protection (Defender for Cloud, vulnerability scanning, etc).
- Hands‑on with identity and access: Okta and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
- Experience operating and troubleshooting databases, preferably Azure SQL, in the cloud including backup/restore and performance basics.
- Familiarity with incident/problem/change processes; contributes runbooks/KB articles after incidents
- Willingness to participate out of business during upgrades/maintenance.
- Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Azure or Kubernetes certifications.
